Notre  musique est puis\u00e9e dans le r\u00e9pertoire m\u00e9di\u00e9val traditionnel que nous interpr\u00e9tons aux sottes de nos humeurs. Tant\u00f4t d\u00e9lectable \u00e0 l\u2019entendement r\u00e9confortant les oppress\u00e9s et endormant les \u00e9veill\u00e9s. Elle peut \u00eatre d\u00e9finie comme une mascarade de Nouvel An, \u00e0 laquelle les eccl\u00e9siastiques participent activement. La confusion qui r\u00e9sulte de ce m\u00e9lange entre les registres religieux et populaires de la f\u00eate a beaucoup contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 sa mauvaise r\u00e9putation.
